Artist Profile
Nell Revel Smith is a contemporary impressionist whose love of the Northern Michigan landscape has inspired her lush floral-filled landscape and still life paintings. Simplicity and spontaneity are the two qualities that best reflect the mood and motivation behind her work.

Nell believes art history is the key to a complete understanding of painting. She received art history training in Europe and in her four years at Michigan State University. Although initially an abstract painter, the self-taught Revel Smith became increasingly influenced by the French Impressionists. To this day, Monet, Sisley and Pissaro are sources of inspiration.

Nell has been painting professionally for over thirty years, and enjoys using a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic and watercolor. Her work hangs in museums, corporations, hospitals, hotels, TV, movie sets, and homes worldwide. The reproduction business has granted her both name-recognition and a growing international reputation. Today, her images are familiar in more than sixty countries.

Northern Michigan is home base for Nell and her husband and manager, Powell. Their home and studio were featured in Country Home Magazine (September, 1994) and Traverse the Magazine (Spring, 2001).
